CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. The Croton-Harmon School District residents will be asked Tuesday to vote on the use of $3.4 million from the districts building savings account. The district is using money saved from previous building projects to undertake maintenance projects and the renovation of the high schools auditorium.
The vote on Jan. 24 is very significant to the school district, Superintendent Edward Fuhrman said.
The use of the capital reserve funds will not create new taxes, the capital reserve account is essentially a building projects savings account, Fuhrman said. The district plans to use the $3.4 million to install air conditioning in the high schools notoriously stifling auditorium and renovate the stage area.
Other renovations include reconstructing bus lanes at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School, asphalt repaving, site drainage, masonry restoration and rebuilding retaining walls.
According to the district, its transportation building holds nearly triple the 20 employees it was built for and was the only building rated inadequate during its latest building assessment. The transportation building will get a building addition.
The district is eligible for up to 21 percent state building aid, which would be repaid over 20 years.
The vote will take place Jan. 24 in the high school gymnasium from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters can register at the district office, through the day before voting takes place. The Croton-Harmon School District website has detailed information on projects to take place in each of the buildings.
