Buchanan-Verplanck Carnival Offers Family Fun

BUCHANAN, N.Y.  --Students from Buchanan Verplanck Elementary School and other area children will have an opportunity to have some fun this weekend at the school's annual PTA carnival.

"It's one of our annual fundraisers," explained Buchanan Verplanck PTA President Lauren Attinelly. "Frank G. Lindsey does theirs next week and Furnace Woods does theirs in October."

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be inflatable bouncy castles, games, a prize table, tattoos, sand art, clown, nail painting, hair coloring, photo buttons, cotton candy, snow-cones, popcorn and a food and bake sale.

At 1 p.m. there will be the cake walk, which has become a favorite event in the district.

“Each of the schools does it. You have people make cakes and then they pay $1 to play the game to try to win. There is a circle of numbers and they play music and the kids walk around and when the music stops  the kids stop," Attinelly said. "They roll a dice with all the numbers on it and then whoever is on the number that is picked gets to select a cake.”

There will also be a silent auction at 3:30 p.m. and a children’s raffle drawing at 3 p.m. There will also be vendor’s booths this year

Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School is located at 160 Westchester Ave. in Buchanan.
