Typically, fewer homes are available for sale during the fall and winter months. This means that home sellers face less competition, and their properties are more likely to be noticed by buyers.
While it’s true that fewer real estate transactions occur in the fall and winter compared to the height of the selling season in April, May and June, homebuyers who are searching in November, December or January are usually more serious and eager to make a move. Many of them are searching for a home because a job change has necessitated a move or because a significant life change is pushing them to find a new residence.
The autumn and winter seasons can also present a perfect opportunity for homeowners to really showcase special features of their home. Festive seasonal decorations, a roaring fire, and lit candles can create warm and cozy rooms that can leave a lasting impression with homebuyers who are touring a home for the first time. Even baking an apple pie or pumpkin pie can generate an inviting smell and atmosphere for visitors who are seeing your home.
This season offers another considerable bonus for homeowners who are considering selling their homes: low interest rates. The average commitment rate for a 30-year, conventional fixed-rate mortgage was 3.89 percent in September. A year ago, the rate was 4.16 percent.
The important thing to remember is that homes sell at all times of the year, whether the thermometer reads 75 degrees or 42 degrees. If you are considering selling your home, the most prudent action to take is to contact a real estate professional. A seasoned real estate professional can provide sound advice and guidance on current market conditions and how they affect you and your neighborhood.
