Initially, an unofficial early call by the Westchester County Board of Elections showed endorsed Democratic candidate Andy Levitt and upstart Kevin Davis as the winners of the Democratic primary. But in an upset, incumbent Ann Gallelli eventually was named winner of the primary, with Davis.
In early October, Virginia Calcutti announced she would run as a write-in candidate. The registered Democrat said she was supported by a "bipartisan committee," and eventually succeeded in receiving more than 700 votes, compared with Gallelli's and Davis' on-the-ballot counts of more than 4,000.
Gallelli and Davis were recently sworn in as trustees after a vote certification delay by the county Board of Elections.
