Police Make Second Cortlandt BWI Arrest Over Holiday Weekend

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – A New Jersey man was arrested on a Boating While Intoxicated charge Monday night, the second drunken boating arrest made on the Hudson River over the holiday weekend, according to Westchester County Police.

Angelo Onello, 60, of Ramsey, N.J., was booked at county police headquarters in Hawthorne on the BWI charge after the county police Marine Unit responded to the area of the Bear Mountain Bridge in Cortlandt at about 9:25 p.m. for a report of an injured woman on a boat.

The woman was thrown from her seat when the 22-foot Sea Ray vessel encountered a wake or struck an unknown object in the water.

The officers observed that Onello appeared to be intoxicated. After failing a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest. Onello was released pending a June 5 appearance in Cortlandt Town Court.

The officers turned the injured woman over to Peekskill EMS for additional medical assistance.

The first BWI occurred Sunday after a Croton-on-Hudson man crashed an 18-foot Stingray into a wooden sea wall on the Hudson River at about 5:40 p.m. near the Viking Marina in Verplanck.

Rogerio Jost, 56, of Truesdale Drive, was issued a desk appearance ticket at Westchester Medical Center charging him with BWI. He was also issued navigation law summonses for reckless operation and operating a vessel above 5 mph within 100 feet of the shoreline. Jost is due in Cortlandt Town Court June 9.
