CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Emergency first responders in Croton-on-Hudson had a busy morning, assisting at the scene of two separate incidents that took place just minutes apart.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, crews from the Croton Fire Department responded to the Croton-Harmon Station after receiving multiple reports of an Amtrak train arriving with smoke in one of the cars.

Led by Deputy Fire Chiefs William Vlad and John Munson, three Engine Companies swiftly made their way to the station, where they boarded the Amtrak train and investigated panels and other points of access to determine the source of the smoke.

According to fire officials, a short investigation revealed that there was a small debris fire in the door track of one of the cars. The “smoldering fire was quickly soaked down using a pressurized water extinguisher by firefighters.”

Just minutes later, fire crews joined Croton EMS and the Ossining EMS Paramedic to the intersection of South Riverside Avenue and Maple Street where there was a two-car collision. First responders treated one person at the scene before they were transported to the hospital. In total, nearly 20 emergency responders from several departments chipped on to help out the community on a chilly Tuesday morning.
