A skull and human remains found behind an area diner have been confirmed to be that of a missing woman.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the Putnam Diner on Saturday, Feb. 1, on Route 22 in Patterson after receiving a call that a human skull had been found in the woods, said the Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, they were met by a 35-year-old Carmel man who told deputies he was walking through the woods when he saw what he believed to be a human skull, the department said.

With the assistance of the New York State Police, the area was canvassed, and additional human bones, a sneaker, and other articles of clothing were recovered.

Dental records confirmed the identity of the remains to be that of missing Danbury resident Laelcira DeLima.

DeLima was last seen on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, leaving home in a 2016 red Honda after telling her two children that she loved them and was going to a local Walmart to pick up a prescription, said Danbury Police at the time.

On Nov. 7, 2017, her vehicle was found, seemingly abandoned, in front of the same diner.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office at 845-225-4300 or Danbury Police at 203-797-4611.
