According to State Police in Cortlandt a man claimed to have a gun when he robbed the bank at about 9:15 a.m. He left with about $3,000.
Police released a photo of the suspect and this description: "The subject is a black male, approximately six feet tall, between 30 to 40 years old, wearing a dark blue collared sport shirt with white stripes down the shoulders, dark blue exercise pants with a white stripe, and a black flat brimmed baseball cap. The subject was carrying a red back pack and fled in an unknown direction."
Outside the A&P, a yellow police line was in front of one of the main entrances, though the store remained open. Police continued their investigation, and were using Darby, a 4-year old bloodhound, to track the man.
A 16-year old female employee of A&P said it was a normal day until 9:30, when police descended onto the scene. The employee said police showed her a picture of the suspect and asked her if she saw anything, but she did not and that "everyone freaked out when the police came."
Matthew Brady, a 23-year old Mohegan Lake resident, said he had never seen so many cops at the Town Center before. Brady said usually there is only one state trooper or a Westchester County police officer. He said he wasn’t surprised someone would rob a bank in Cortlandt.
“Bank robberies happen everywhere,” Brady said. “When people are really desperate, they just don’t care.” Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 917-788-8044.
