Karriem Barrow was sentenced to the 16 life sentences – plus two additional 20-year federal prison terms – for eight armed robberies that happened in Westchester, Putnam, and the Bronx during a two-month period in 2010, court records show.
The targeted businesses were seven banks and one restaurant, according to court records.
One of the robberies, of a Chase Bank in Briarcliff Manor, netted Barrow more than $115,000, according to court records.
“Today’s sentence sends a strong and clear message that our federal and local partners will work together to ensure that those who endanger the lives of our citizens through brazen acts of violence will be met with severe punishment,” Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a press release.
