At approximately 1:10 p.m., crews from the Croton-on-Hudson were dispatched to Furnace Dock Road, near Cortlandt Street, where there was a reported brush fire.
Upon arrival, first responders determined that the incident was on the Oscawana Lake property int he Montrose Fire District, and additional crews were sent to the scene.
According to fire officials, crews from Croton-on-Hudson and Montrose made their way into the wooded area with the help of an official pickup truck from the Town of Cortlandt. Firefighters then took to the woods, where they battled a small brush fire and a “deep-seated fire in a dead tree.”
The fire was quickly knocked down using pressurized water extinguishers, water vests, rakes and chain saws, officials said. The blaze was knocked down and under control in less than two hours.
