CORTLANDT, N.Y. - From a spaghetti dinner to boating safety, here's a look at some of the events around Cortlandt this weekend.

Friday, April 13

Spaghetti Dinner in Buchanan A spaghetti dinner and raffle will be held at the Buchanan Engine Company firehouse, sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary Club. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and no reservations are needed. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12-years-old and $7 for seniors. Kids under 5-years-old are free. New York State Boating Safety Course This course teaches the fundamentals of safe boating operation for teens and adults. There is an exam at the end of this class, which you must pass to receive a safety certificate. Registration begins March 30 and a $10 fee payable to New York State Parks is required for permanent certification of students 18 and older. Participants are welcome to bring lunch. This event takes place at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library, 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, N.Y. Call 914-739-5654 for more information or to register.

Croton Free Library 75th Anniversary Party The Croton Free Library celebrates its 75th birthday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The library is located at 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. For more information about the party call 914-271-6612.

Childbirth Classes The Hudson Valley Hospital Center will host a one-day childbirth class. The all-day class begins at 9 a.m. with instructor Linda Lemon. Admission is $150. HVHC is located at 1980 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. For more information call 914-734-3896.

Wildflower Island Opens The two-acre refuge for native plants within Teatown Lake Preservations open for the season Saturday. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and 1:30 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 30. Access to the island is by guided tour only and is for guests 12-years-old and older. Beekeeping 101 This class goes through the nuts and bolts of starting your own hive. The art of beekeeping, life cycle of honeybees and breakdown of costs associated with beekeeping will be covered.
