What's Happening This Weekend in Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – There are plenty of events taking place in and around Cortlandt over the weekend, including some for nature lovers, food lovers and some to celebrate Presidents Day.  

Friday Great Backyard Bird Count The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. Beer Tasting The Green Growler Grocery will host a tasting of Victory beer from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is no admission fee and attendees must be at least 21-years-old. The Green Growler is located at 386 S. Riverside Ave., Croton-on-Hudson. Call (914) 862-0961 for more information.

Teen Canteen The canteen program is open to kids ages 11 to 18-years-old. Activities include open gym, basketball, board games, bumper pool, ping pong, foosball, and arts/crafts. Residents must show ID. Call (914) 736-0498 for more information.

Croton Indoor Farmers Market Shoppers can go to the former Blockbuster location in the Van Wyck Shopping Center and enjoy the new farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market has various vendors including some selling fresh bread, fish, pickles and vegetables. Mammal Mania Visitors to Teatown Lake Reservation can register for this event, which explains strategies mammals use to survive and what makes a mammal… well, a mammal. Teatown will use furs, mounts and live animals to explore the diversity of furry creatures in the Hudson Hills and Highlands. This event begins at 11 a.m., is free for members and is $5 for non-members.

Abraham Lincoln Speech Reenactment The Lincoln Society in Peekskill will reenact the speech given by the famous president at the Lincoln Depot on South Water Street in Peekskill at the same location and day when the actual event occurred in 1861. The parade will first gather at the Peekskill Train Station on Railroad Avenue at 10:30 a.m. and will march to Lincoln Depot, where the speech will be delivered at 11 a.m.

Sunday

Daisy Jopling Special Performance The classical rock violinist Daisy Jopling will perform at the Winery at St. George, located at 1715 E. Main St., Mohegan Lake. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the event begins at 5 p.m. Admission is $55, which includes an open wine bar and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are available in advance.

Peekskill Elks Breakfast Enjoy Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes, Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice and monthly specials at the Elks Lodge in Peekskill, beginning at 8 a.m., the third Sunday of every month.
