What's Happening This Weekend Around Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Here are some events happening around the Town of Cortlandt this weekend.

Friday, July 27

New York Uproar 7 p.m. New York Uproar performs soul classics with flair, at Croton's Senasqua Park. Admission is free for Croton residents. Call the Village of Croton Recreation Department for more information. 914-271-3006.

Croton Teen Theater Performs "Company" 8 p.m. The Croton Teen Theater will perform "Company," with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, at the Croton-Harmon High School Auditorium. Repeat performances will take place Saturday, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors.

Saturday, July 28

Steel Passion, Drum Band 7:30 p.m. Take a mini musical vacation with Steel Passion, The Steel Band of Christ Episcopal Church in Tarrytown. Steel Passion is a small band with a big sound. It plays global music with an island cadence including calypso, pop, jazz, classical and liturgical. This event is free and will take place at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson.

Croton Teen Theater Performs "Macbeth"  11 a.m. The Croton Teen Theater will perform the Shakespearean classic about power and ambition, at Vassallo Park in Croton. A repeat performance will take place Sunday, at 3 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are requested.

Kayaking With L.L. Bean 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (until Oct. 6), 1-2:30pm (until Sept. 1). This summer, L.L.Bean Yonkers is offering kayaking lessons on Teatown's Vernay Lake. After brief introductions and a safety talk, you'll be outfitted in a personal flotation device and receive paddling instruction. You'll then set out in a solo, recreational kayak to enjoy a guided, interpretive tour, learning about the ecosystem and historical aspects of the area. Children should be at least 8 years old, and accompanied by an adult. Admission is $20. To register, call L.L.Bean at 888-490-3836.

Animal Ambassador's: Snakes 1 p.m. Children can come meet a few of Teatown Lake Reservation's animal ambassadors in this slithery, but not slimy, program about snakes. This program is for children 4 years old and over. This program is free for members, and $5 for non-members. Call or visit Teatown Lake Reservation for more information, at 914-762-2912, 1600 Spring Valley Road, Ossining.

Bee Gees Tributes Band 6 p.m. A Bee Gees tribute band will play at the Jack Devito Gazebo in Yorktown, presented by the Yorktown Lions Club.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, food will be sold by the Yorktown Lions and Leos.
