What's Going On This Weekend Around Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Whether it’s outdoor hikes or indoor concerts, there are plenty of things to do in the winter. Here are some events going on around Cortlandt this weekend.

Friday, Jan. 20

Canteen for Teens The Muriel H. Morabito Community Center in Cortlandt will host an open gym, basketball, board games, bumper pool, ping-pong, football and arts & crafts from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday. The event is appropriate for ages 11 to 18; teens must show proof of Cortlandt residency. Call (914) 736-0498. 

Preschool Parenting Meetings Walk-ins are welcome at parenting workshop at the Mt. Airy Nursery School. A guest speaker from the Hendrick Hudson School District will be present to discuss special education. The event will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Coffee will be available for parents, and art classes will be taught for children during the workshop. Admission is $5 for parents whose children do not attend the school.

Saturday, Jan. 21

E-Reader Overdrive Workshop The Hendrick Hudson Free Library will host a free workshop where patrons learn how to rent library books with digital e-readers. Bring your e-reader with you for this workshop. The event begins at 10 a.m. 

The Owl Moon After reading the classic book, “Owl Moon,” explore Teatown Lake Reservation grounds searching for owls. Dress appropriately, as the night should be cold. This event is for children over five years old. Admission is $5 for non-members, and free for members. The event is from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Teatown Lake Reservation is located at 1600 Spring Valley Road, Ossining. 

Brotherhood’s Annual Comedy Night Temple Israel of Northern Westchester opens its door at 7 p.m., the show begins at 8 p.m. Laugh until it hurts, and support the charitable activities of Temple Israel. The show is $40 and there will be snacks, a cash bar and desserts after the show. For more information visit Temple Israel’s website.

Salsa Night Dance the night away at Tenampa in Cortlandt. Dancing begins at 9 p.m. Call for more information, at (914) 271-2920. Tenampa is located at 2011 Albany Post Road, Croton-on-Hudson. 

Sunday, Jan. 22

BeanRunner Café Live performances begin at 7 p.m. with Dean Friedman, singer-songwriter, and New Middle Class, an award-winning folk duo. The concert benefits the Reform Temple of Putnam and features a silent auction. Admission is $15, the show runs until 9:30 p.m.
