Westchester Contractors Optimistic About Economy

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - With consumer confidence inching up ever so slightly, home improvement contractors said they are hopeful property owners will think about spending money again on upgrades and repairs.

Mark Thompson, marketing manager for Jilco Window Corporation in Granite Springs, said he was optimistic things were beginning to turn around.

"People are more confident with their jobs and they'll spend a little dough," Thompson said. "With the warm winter this was a big break for us. This has allowed everyone to get off to a good start this year."

Jilco was the main sponsor with the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce of the Fourth Annual Home Expo at Club Fit in Jefferson Valley Sunday. About 50 vendors were on hand to display their goods and services.

"We love it," Thompson said of Jilco being the sponsor of the event for the second straight year. "We want to give consumers in the area a good representation of the area."

Thompson noted many residents who visited the expo were inquiring about remodeling their kitchens.

"People waited so long and now they're ready to jump in and do kitchen remodeling," he said.

About 1,200 members utilize Club Fit on the weekends, which made the club an ideal venue for the Home Expo, according to James Stropoli, information technology director for the club and a chamber board member for about 15 years.

"It's an opportunity to give back. We're all about community," Stropoli said. "It's a great opportunity to showcase what the community has to offer and bring it to residents and our membership."
