Used Car Dealership to Open in Harmon

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.--  A new car service station and used car lot will open on South Riverside Avenue now that the Croton Board of Trustees granted approval for the business.

The board granted a special permit, required by village ordinance, for John Palladino to open the car lot at 365 South Riverside Avenue.

The permit comes with specific limitations. Cars can’t be test-driven on residential streets, only the highway, Route 9, South Riverside Avenue and Croton Point Avenue. In addition, the permit stipulates that employees of the lot and cars waiting to be serviced can’t  be parked on the street.

The location has been a car dealership since 1929, originally a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership owned by Henry Heckman. The site became a service station in 1949. Heckman was also responsible for building Harmon’s first fire engine, out of various used pieces from other fire engines, according to the Croton Historical Society.
