Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, with snow falling and ice forming on roadways, a vehicle traveling westbound on Mount Airy Road West near Upland Lane lost control, overturned and landed on its side, entrapping two people.
The poor conditions of the road - as well as the presence of several other stranded motorists - made it difficult for the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department to make their way to the scene of the accident, prompting the first responders to walk down an icy hill to assist the two trapped below.
Several crews from the fire department responded to the scene, and the two entrapped parties - who were unharmed in the accident - were transported to Croton paramedics as a precaution. Units remained on scene to assist the remaining stranded motorists off the hill, and the Cortlandt Department of Public Works sent a salt truck to tend to the area. According to the department, the scene was cleared after approximately 90 minutes.
