Transformer Fire Blows Out Power to Hvhc

CORTLANDT—A transformer fire temporarily knocked out power to one wing of Hudson Valley Hospital Center and has caused phone and internet service at the hospital to be intermittent. The surge of power caused by the transformer fire disabled the automatic startup of the wing’s backup generator, and nine patients were moved as a result.

John C. Federspiel, the hospital president, released the information saying; “Patients were in no danger at any time and we were able to move those affected patients to another area of the hospital that was being served by our backup generators.” Federspiel added, “We are working with Con Edison to restore power as soon as possible.”

The hospital recently recovered from damage to phone lines left by hurricane Irene, and is currently under “partial diversion” until power is fully restored. “Partial diversion” means that critical and emergency patients will not be brought to the hospital until the power situation is sorted out with Con Edison.
