CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. Although two Cortlandt Town Board councilman are up for reelection, as well as Supervisor Linda Puglisi, the three are running unopposed. The last serious competition posed by another candidate for supervisor was by David Simbari.
Simbari won the Republican, Conservative and Independent party lines in the Town of Cortlandt, but lost the general election to Democrat Puglisi, supervisor for over 20 years, by a margin of nearly two-to-one. Simbari was part of a full slate of candidates endorsed two years ago by the Cortlandt Republican Committee.
Suzane Sadofsky, Chair of the Cortlandt Republican Committee, said that I think the economy stops people from running even for a local campaign, it costs people thousands of dollars to run, and I think people are not willing to spend that money right now.
Councilmen Richard Becker and Frank Farrell are up for reelection, both running unopposed. Sadofsky said that she didnt believe people were interested in running against Puglisi, because she is very popular in the town.
In previous years, years ago, a lot of people didnt want to run against her, said Sadofsky. She also said that Puglisis reelection to years ago was a major victory for her.
Sadofsky added that there are Republican candidates for Westchester County Legislature. This includes Republican Westchester County Legislative incumbent for District 1, John Testa, and candidate for county legislator for District 9, Susan Konig. Konig lost by only 12 votes two years ago, to Democrat Bill Burton.
Burton is not running again this year, and Konig will oppose current Town of Ossining Supervisor, Democrat Catherine Borgia, for seat as county legislator, representing Southern Cortlandt. Testa will face Democrat Mike Kane for control of the northern half of Cortlandt.
Now, said Sadofsky, we just have to get out the vote.
