Somers Family Sprints Into Action

SOMERS, N.Y. - Ricky Mancini was studying pre-law in college when he decided family life was more important. So he traded in his books for a business career.

Now he is the part owner and full-time manager of the new Sprint Retail and Service Center on Route 6 in the Somers Commons Shopping Center.

The business is actually a family enterprise. Together with his parents, Joan and Richard Mancini, Sr., Ricky created Mirinet Communications, the parent company of the Sprint store.

“Ten years ago when you left the house you grabbed your car keys and your wallet,” said Richard Sr. in a press release. “Now you can’t leave the house or go anywhere without your cell phone.”

The Mancinis are especially happy to be affiliated with Sprint, because it is the last major carrier to have unlimited data on cell phones. “And it’s a green company,” Ricky added.

The Baldwin Place store is a fully authorized service and repair center and sells cell phones, phone accessories and tablet computers.

The Mancini family arrived in Somers from Italy in 1950, shortly after the end of World War II. Grandpa Pio Mancini started a modest construction business which eventually grew into the Mancini Building Corporation, run by his sons, John and Richard. Somers’ Mancini Realty on Route 202 is an offshoot of the building company.

Thirty-two year-old Richard Mancini, Jr. is the third generation of Mancinis to go into business in Somers. In a way, they feel that their family extends beyond the immediate relatives and encompasses their home town -- the town that welcomed Grandpa Pio sixty years ago.

The Daily Somers congratulates Ricky Mancini and his family in their new enterprise.
