RV Colony Said To Be Thriving At Westchester's Croton Point Park

CROTON, N.Y. – Tucked away among the trees at Croton Point Park is a little known source of revenue for Westchester County – and a haven of affordable living for certain workers, according to a report in The Journal News.

A colony of recreation vehicles has sprung up at Westchester County's Croton Point Park. Until recently, the encampment closed in December and reopened in March. RVers , some of them itinerant construction workers, are now living there year-round.

A colony of recreation vehicles -- some of them occupied by folks working on the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Spectra pipeline projects -- has sprung up at the county-owned facility, the newspaper reported.

While the park has always been used for camping – there are tents and cabins for the warmer months – its status as a year-round facility is relatively new, the report said.

Until 2013, the RV encampment closed on Dec. 1 and reopened in early March.
