Resident Contacted About Fake Lottery Winnings

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A resident of Finney Farm road received a call from an unknown man, offering to drop off a $1 million lottery check to the resident. The resident told the unknown man that he didn’t want any more phone calls, and that if he called again the resident would notify local police. The resident contacted police around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and the matter is under investigation.

Police received over three dozen phone calls about trees, branches and wires down throughout the area. The Croton Fire Department also received numerous calls because of fires started in the snow after live wires were knocked from utility poles.

There was at least one structure fire on Saturday evening at Anton’s restaurant. Firefighters responded to a call of a transformer fire, when smoke began coming out of the basement of Anton’s. The fire took hours to bring under control, and firefighters eventually had to reach out to neighboring fire departments for relief. The first floor collapsed into the basement during the fire. Firefighters were able to leave the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police are still receiving calls about hazardous conditions throughout the village, as of Thursday afternoon.

Monday, October 31, 2:22 p.m.

A transformed which was knocked over during Saturday night’s storm was leaking fluid, according to a caller’s reports to Croton Police. Con Edison was already on scene when police arrived, and a Con Edison hazardous materials team was contacted to help clean up the transformer oil. According to Croton Police, the fluid had already reached the Croton Yacht Club. The Croton Fire Department setup small dams near the storm drains on the street to try to prevent any fluid from reaching the Hudson River.

Monday, October 31, 7:28 p.m.

A resident of Truesdale Drive reported that someone threw an egg through the front window of their house. Street lights were still out on that part of the street, and it was hard to determine who had thrown the egg.

Wednesday, November 2, 9:25 a.m.

A man turned himself into Croton Police, after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Dimitri Vitaliotis, 28, was arraigned on two counts of felony criminal contempt, and was transported to Westchester County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000, and he is due in court on November 16.

Thursday, November 3, 6:53 a.m.

A resident reported to Croton Police that his mailbox was damaged sometime during the night. Croton Police investigated the matter, and say it appeared to be damaged by a vehicle which ran over the curb.
