CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - A Republican aide to Westchester County Legislator John Testa was arrested on September 9 for the second DWI charge in two years, according to New York State Police reports.
Bernard Molloy, 51, was stopped on Route 202 in Cortlandt for unsafely changing lanes, just before midnight, on Friday, September 9. His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at .17.
""Mr. Molloy has been a valuable member of our staff but this charge is very serious," said Matthew Richter, spokesman for the Republican County Legislators in a statement, "The caucus believes that suspending Mr. Molloy without pay was an appropriate action to take while he goes through the Employee Assistance Program that is made available to him by the county. We believe Mr. Molloy will be successful in addressing his personal problems and hopefully he will return as a valuable and talented member of our staff."
Molloy was scheduled to be in court in the Town of Cortlandt this morning. Molloy was hired by Testa as a part-time aide just after Testas election into the county board. This is Molloys second DWI in Cortlandt. His first DWI stems from a minor accident Molloy had in Marchf 2010 on the Bear Mountain Parkway near Route 202.
The incident did not appear on State Police blotters for September 9, although when called, New York State Police in Albany disclosed details on the arrest. New York State Police have not yet determined why the incident did not appear on State Police blotters.
Although Molloy could have been fired, he was instead suspended without pay, and offered treatment through the countys Employee Assistance Program. Testa, whose district covers Peekskill, Cortlandt and Yorktown, could not be reached for comment.
