According to police, a Ramapo woman recently reported that she answered a telephone call and was told she had won a nearly $1 million lottery jackpot.
The caller then continued to tell the woman that if she wanted to claim the money, she would have to mail $6,000 to an address in Florida, according to police.
The woman became suspicious a short time later and, without sending the money, reported the incident to Ramapo police, authorities said.
"Ramapo police would like to remind residents that if they receive calls of this type, do not engage the caller. Instead, notify the Ramapo Police Department," Ramapo officers said in a statement.
