Pumpkin Painting and Halloween Events Abound

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – So close to Halloween the urge to dress in costumes and see spooky performances is reflected in Halloween themed events. The Blaze is the ongoing, largest Halloween event in Westchester. Halloweeny Yoginis, on the other hand, is a small, costumed yoga session for toddlers in the Croton Free Library. Take your pick!

Friday, October 21Rob Morseberger and Peter Calo - Will perform live at the Croton Free Library, at 7:30 p.m. Wordsmith Morsberger and master musicians Calo will perform something "bluesy, funky, folksy." Both musicians are Croton-based.

Jack O'Lantern Blaze - Over 4,000 individually carved Jack O'Lanterns will be on display at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton, though October and the first week of November. Last year over 80,000 people were attracted to the event, which covers the landscape of the estate. Horseman's Hollow - Philipsburg Manor transforms into a terrifying landscape for a haunted pre-Halloween experience. Advance tickets are required for this event, and it is recommended for ages 12 and up. visit Historic Hudson Valley's website for more information on show times and tickets.

Irving's Legend - Master story teller Jonathan Kruk offers a dramatic tale of Washington Irving's classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This event runs Saturday and Sunday as well, tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for children under 18. Visit Historic Hudson Valley's website for more information.

Saturday, October 22

Zumba for Komen – Party in Pink Zumbathon Charity event will be held in Montrose, all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., refreshments will be available. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, the event will take place at Hudson Dance and Tumble, located at 2144 Albany Post Road, Montrose.

Nature Hike - A moderate to strenuous nature hike, at Candlewood Hill in Fahnestock includes ecology and natural history and will meet at the Jefferson Valley Club Fit, at 10 a.m. Bring lunch and wear comfortable shoes, also expect to carpool. The event is cancelled in the event of rain. Call Teatown Lake Reservation if the weather is questionable. For reservations call (914) 762-2912 x. 110. Animal Adventures - The misunderstood creatures of Teatown Lake Reservation will be explained. Find out why some animals have a bad reputation. The event starts at 1 p.m., is free to members, and $5 for non-members. Call (914) 762-2912 x. 110, must preregister for event.

Halloweeny Yoginis - This is a Halloween themed yoga event for kids ages 3 to 6. Join Kristina Cohen of Touch my Heart Yoga for some spooky yoga fun. Wear a comfortable costume if you like, but no accessories please, for safety reasons. Registration is required. Sign up in person at the Croton Free Library, or by phone (914) 271-6612.Children must be accompanied by an adult.
