Police Investigate Shots Fired in Dunbar Heights

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The Peekskill Police Department is looking for information regarding an attempted shooting in the Dunbar Heights housing project, on Thursday March 8, around 6:15 p.m. Police believe the suspect fired several rounds from a 380 semi-automatic pistol, striking the tail light of a car but, luckily, missing several residents who were outdoors enjoying a nice evening.

Police say they have been distributing flyers throughout the neighborhood but no one has come forward, even though several adults and children were in the area at the time shots were fired.

“We’ve increased our presence in the area, so we’re hoping that will help deter any future instances,” said Detective Sgt. Raymond Henderlong, of the Peekskill Police Department.

“The best solution is the apprehension of the cowardly people who did it, and we’re trying our hardest,” said Henderlong.

Henderlong said he was unable to discuss details of the case, except to say police believe there were two suspects on foot.

“We need your help in order for us to protect you, your family and loved ones and to successfully identify and prosecute the criminals who committed this violent act, without forethought or regard for the hundreds of innocent people they put in harm’s way and to prevent further violence,” says the flyer distributed by police.

Anyone with information should call Peekskill Police at 914-737-8000. Calls are confidential.
