Peekskill Shows Irish Pride At St. Patrick's Day Parade

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Luckily for the hundreds marching in the 23rd annual St. Patrick's Parade Saturday, the weather looked nothing like Ireland.

The clear sunny skies and seasonably warm weather translated into a larger than usual turnout for the annual parade, which started near Assumption Church and made its way through downtown before finishing at the viewing station on James Street.

This year's parade was led by grand marshal Elizabeth Mitchell Marques, a BOCES television and film instructor, who was followed closely by aides Frances Catalina, Rev. John Higgins, Police Lt. Cathy Johansen and James Walsh, owner of The Stadium sports bar in Garrison.

The grand marshal's group was followed by past parade marshals and aides and local elected officials, as well as students from The Assumption School and the Peekskill City School District followed by scores of other participating groups.
