PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- As Bobby Hicks, 8, slowly raised his hand holding a sliver of red apple up to the horse in front of him, he was participating in a 41-year-old Peekskill tradition, even if he didnt know it.
Saturday and Sunday, the Peeskill Rotary Club held its annual horse show and country fair at the blue mountain reservation, where it has been held for an estimated 30 years, said Cliff Heaton, rotary president.
All of the proceeds from today go back into the community, and in return the community kind of looks forward to this event every year, Heaton said.
Mallory Karst, 9, from Buchanan couldnt agree more.
My favorite part was riding the horsesI loved it, she said, after having her face painted at one of the many childrens attractions.
There were different tents housing vendors and food, horses, hay rides, bouncy castles and face painting.
Heaton said that although the location wasnt always the same, the horses were always an element in the annual fundraiser.
Its in the heads of the community, they look forward to and look out for the date when well have the horse show, he said. And its grown and every year it keeps getting better. Each year we get more young kids who come and want to come back each year.
