Peekskill Bakery Owner Designs Cake for Yankees

Homestyle Desserts owner Rose Sanca is becoming such a fixture at New York Yankees events that she may just get a plaque one day in Monument Park.

The long-time Peekskill bakery entrepreneur was chosen by the Yankees to create a cake for the Oldtimer's Day Weekend festivities, which kicks off tonight at the Hard Rock Cafe in Manhattan. Sanca and her son, Jason Elias, will be personally delivering the three-tier cake, which features edible baseball cards of the 60 former Yankee players scheduled to be at Yankee Stadium Sunday afternoon.

"They always give me the challenging stuff. Cake Boss gets the easy stuff," Sanca quipped. "They trust me somehow."

It is the third cake Sanca has been hired by the Yankees to make. In 2009, she created a cake shaped like a yacht for Oldtimer's Day, and last year she designed a cake that resembled the World Series trophy. She also once made cookies for former Yankee owner George Steinbrenner and a few cakes for former player and manager Lou Piniella.

Sanca is not a baseball fan, but her husband and son enjoy the perks of getting tickets in a luxury suite.

"My family loves going to the Yankee games. It's like the red carpet," she said. "When I first met Lou Piniella years ago I didn't even know who he was."
