Mohegan Lake Woman Killed in Head-On Collision

CORTLANDT, N.Y.—A Mohegan Lake woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision when she tried to make a left hand turn into the Cortlandt Town Center.

Mohegan Lake Fire Chief Brian Wolert said the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the car carrying a woman travelling westbound on Route 6 tried to make a left when there was a green light, not a green arrow, and struck the other car carrying two passengers traveling eastbound.

New York State Police Lieutenant Douglas Larkin confirmed the cause of the accident, saying it was a "failure to keep right" by the woman driving westbound, Patricia Wade, 69, of Mohegan Lake.  She was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead. The others injured in the crash were identified as Lester Loyed from Shenorock and his passenger, John Kaspar of Carmel.

Wolert said the two men were taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. The Lake Mohegan Fire Department, the Mohegan Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Cortlandt Paramedics and the New York State Police all responded to the incident, Wolert said, as well as a reconstruction team.
