Late-Summer Repaving To Begin In Cortlandt

CORTLANDT,N.Y.– Driving the neighborhoods around Cortlandt, it's difficult to miss the 2-inch deep, 1-foot wide cuts that span the width of roads around the town. The cut-in portions are in preparation to repave these roads, the "keys" help new asphalt grip the road.

Parts of 14 roads are being repaved, nearly $1 million worth of work and about three-and-a-quarter miles of road all together.

The keys act like inverted speed bumps to some degree, as any driver who misses the "BUMP" warning signs, and hits a key full speed is unlikely to forget the jolt.

Road crews have between three and four weeks of work ahead of them, assuming there is good weather. Drivers may notice some delays through town roads while crews are working.

"You'll expect delays during working hours. They need to let the pavement cool down a little bit before you can drive on it, there are going to be one lane roads while they're working on it, but it's normally only a couple hours after they pave," said Lee Beauchamp, deputy director of the Town of Cortlandt's Department of Environmental Services.

Below is a list of roads scheduled to be repaved in the coming month. The Village of Buchanan and Town of Cortlandt combined paving contracts to save money, and some of the roads listed below are in Buchanan.
