For Lakeland High School Senior Shannon Sullivan, Thursday could not be a bad hair day.
Sullivan sat calmly in the hairdressers chair Thursday afternoon as Lucha Salvia worked magic on her blond hair to prepare for prom.
Im just so excited, Sullivan said, sporting manicured toes and fingers. Its going to be a great time, and Im excited to celebrate it.
Sullivan remained composed in The Style Inn as her hair was braided and curled before her makeup was applied to polish her off before she slipped into her leopard-print dress to attend the prom that was taking place at Beckwith Pointe.
The hair salon itself was decorated for prom, and was set up to be a prom headquarters for the ladies who were attending proms Thursday evening. Stylists in the salon serviced girls from four different schools: Putnam Valley, Walter Panas, Lakeland and Yorktown.
Yorktown student Crystal Colombo, who was attending her schools prom at the Surf Club, had her make-up done at the Lancome counter at the Jefferson Valley Mall, and opted to have her friend do her hair in beautiful long curls.
Brightly colored balloons to represent each high schools colors framed the mirror that Lakeland junior Madison Morelli reflected in after stylist Donna Bonci did her up-do and makeup at the inn.
A lot of the specific trends this year are from Taylor Swift, explained Bonci. Lots and lots of curls and up-do's.
Stylists at the salon explained they had been filled with students who had the luxury of getting both hair and make-up done at the same place, and for a reasonable price.
Charlene Pateman said the salon created an atmosphere that would make the girls feel special that day.
Its such a great day for them, we want to make them look and feel great, she said. Today is all about them.
