Lake Peekskill Resident Faces Drug Charges

MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. – New York State Police say a Lake Peekskill resident attempted to steal merchandise from Best Buy in Cortlandt. When attempting to leave the scene he was found to be in possession of a bag of white powder, believed to be cocaine, say police. Thomas E. Maroulis Jr., 39, of Lake Peekskill, was charged with petty larceny and possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.

New York State Police say they received a call from Best Buy in Cortlandt Town Center, where store security said they believed a man was trying to steal merchandise from the store. As police arrived, security advised them that the man was trying to leave the scene in his vehicle.

Police say they stopped Maroulis on Constitution and East Main Street in Mohegan Lake, searched Maroulis, and found a small clear bag with a white powder believed to be cocaine. During the search of the vehicle police say they obtained a small white and red straw with white powder residue on it, also believed to be cocaine.

Troopers say they took Maroulis back to Best Buy, where he was identified at the man who was attempting to steal merchandise from the store. He was booked and processed, and released without bail. Maroulis is scheduled to appear in Town of Cortlandt Court on Dec. 19, at 9 a.m.
