The owner of the Indian Point nuclear facility in Buchanan announced last fall that it was closing the James A. FitzPatrick power plant in Scriba for economic reasons, a move that would have affected hundreds of employees and left a big hole in the local tax base, lohud.com reported.
Entergy told lohud.com that it is in acquisition talks with Exelon, a Chicago-based company that does business in 48 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada.
A vote by the Public Service Commission on New York state’s proposed economic subsidies for upstate power plants is looming, the lohud.com report said.
It was unclear, lohud.com reported, if those subsidies would help Indian Point, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to see shut down because of safety issues.
