Hudson Valley Hospital Honors Employees Year-Round

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Eleven employees were honored for their service to Hudson Valley Hospital Center on Tuesday, as three-foot portraits were unveiled in the hospital’s “Wall of Heroes.” Each honoree will have a three-foot, black and white portrait hung in the hospital's main corridor for the remainder of the year.

Honorees ranged from emergency department nurses to environmental services staff. "These are the people that touch our patients’ hearts,” said Susan Sheehy, captain of the awards recognition team. The “Heroes” program allows employees to nominate their coworkers.

Reynaldo Andino, one of the hospital’s environmental services staff, said the party in the hospital’s lobby came as a “complete surprise,” saying that someone told him, “we’re going to have a meeting and everyone showed up here,” he said through an ear-to-ear smile.

For others, “it’s a family affair.” Eric Schore, whose mother also works at the hospital, said the best part of the ceremony was “to be recognized with the people that you work with.” A co-worker, Operating Room nurse, Kathy Downes, walked up behind Schore and called him “Johnny-on-the-spot,” saying he was “always responsive.”

“It’s a really impressive sight, and the ceremony is very moving,” said John C. Federspeil, hospital president. “When you walk down the corridor and see these three-foot high portraits on the wall, it really makes a statement about how we feel about our employees. It’s something they and their families can be proud of, not just for one day, but for the entire year.”
