Holiday Music, Plays and Events Near Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – There are plenty of ways to ring in the holidays in and around Cortlandt. A sprinkling of tree-lighting ceremonies and traditional Christmas music and plays should keep anyone smiling through holiday shopping trips.

Friday, December 2

Old Mill Singers Anniversary and Holiday  This classical chorale group focuses on lighter fare, and will ask the audience to sing along. The concert runs both Friday and Saturday, and is held at the Ossining High School. Parking is free, and admission is $10 for children under 12 years old and seniors, and $15 for adults. West Point Band Hudson Valley Holiday The West point Band will present its popular holiday series on Friday and Saturday night. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Eisenhower Hall Theater. Christmas Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival will bring Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” to life. Performances will be held in the Mansion at Boscobel, tickets are $75. Make it, Stake it, Bake it Holiday Auction Make your favorite crafts, cookies or bring your best manicured plants to the Hendrick Hudson High School Library at 7 p.m. This fundraiser can spice up your holiday shopping and help you share your specialties. Peekskill Tree Lighting Kick off the holiday season in the City of Peekskill, as the Christmas tree is lit up. The lighting will take place at 5 p.m. in the Gazebo on Division Street and Park Street in downtown Peekskill.

The ABCs of Antique Care Historical Hudson Valley presents this how-to guide at caring for antiques. Special focus will be placed on the care and storage of textiles, paper documents, and books. Learn about materials and processes that reflect best museum practice, yet are accessible and attainable in a home setting. The class starts at 10 a.m., and runs until 12:30 p.m. Admission is $35 per person, $25 for HHV members, and will be held at 639 Bedford Road, Pocantico Hills. Call (914) 631-8200 for reservations.

Sunday, December 4

Buchanan Tree Lighting Join friends and family at the Village Circle in Buchanan for singing, raffles, giveaways, cookies, hot chocolate and, of course, the lighting of the Christmas tree and Santa Claus. The ceremony begins at 4:45 p.m.
