Heat Stifles Croton Farmer's Market

Croton’s Farmer’s market suffered an economic blow because of today’s heat wave. According to local vendors uncomfortable weather, such as extreme heat, can keep all but the most avid shoppers at home.

“It’s hard on hot days,” said Brenda Ryan, Thornwood resident and manager of the Croton Farmer's Market.

However, she said people should know the nice thing about the Farmer's Market is they can get everything they need for dinner. “They don’t even have to cook.”

“No matter what the weather,” said Doctor Pickle vendor Todd Cabach, “the regulars come out, and it’s unfair for them to come out if we don’t.”

One business not suffering because of the unusually high temperature is the Blue Pig ice cream shop. Seven-year-old Nate Bilgoray sat in the air conditioned ice cream shop with his mother and younger sister, eating Oreo ice cream and said he keeps cool by keeping the “air conditioning blasting all day.”
