Indian Point’s cooling system draws water from the Hudson River, killing more than a billion eggs and small fish each year in the process, the story said. Environmental group Riverkeeper and state officials are proposing a seasonal shutdown between May and August, the story said.

The shutdown is one alternative to building cooling towers that Indian Point operator Entergy has opposed due to their large size, reports lohud.
