Group's 1,700-Mile Relay Hits Croton Tuesday

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A 1,700-mile relay dedicated to honoring veterans and promoting the meaning behind Memorial Day will wind its way through several villages in Westchester along Route 9 Tuesday night.

Carry the Load says it intends “to drive attention and resources to existing non-profits already supporting veteran families and veteran organizations.”

Several hundred people are participating in a relay from West Point to Dallas. The relay's course is divided into 350 five-mile segments and will make stops Tuesday in Peekskill, Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining, Sleepy Hollow and Dobbs Ferry.

“Let’s join together in remembering the men and women who have Carried the Load for us by giving their last full measure in service to America,” the organization says on its website.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow residents are planning to welcome the relay as it walks through both villages with a rally at Patriots Park.

Relay participants will arrive in Peekskill around 2 p.m., Croton around 4 p.m., Ossining around 6 p.m., Sleepy Hollow around 8 p.m. and Dobbs Ferry around 10 p.m. Details on each segment can be found on the group's website.

The entire 1,700-mile relay will end in Dallas on May 27 in time for the Carry the Load Dallas event.
