CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. According to line item vetoes from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Teatown Lake Reservation will not receive $20,000 in funding promised to the nature preserve by State Sen. Greg Ball (R-Patterson). Ball, however, says the money is still in the works, and the governors veto will only delay the funds for a few more weeks.
The governor's rationale for disapproving line item veto number 67, along with 129 other line item vetoes for individual districts, stated This item passed by the Legislature, to which I object and do not approve, is a new appropriation, but is improperly characterized as a reappropriation. Accordingly, this item is disapproved.
Ball presented Teatown with an oversized check for $20,000 at Teatowns popular Eaglefest, held Jan. 31 in Croton Point Park. Ball says he will still make good on the $20,000 promise to Teatown, as well as last weeks second veto of $18,000 in funding promised to the Peekskill American Legion.
They were particularly vetoed, because at face value they appeared as new, but these are dollars from budgets many years ago, with zero fiscal impact on this budget cycle. So we now are going to go back and work with grants that are available from those budgets, and new dollars that are available from capital grants to make sure that we still take care of the money. And honestly, its a pretty easy process, it just takes paperwork, Ball said.
Ball said he was working with Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) to reinstate the dollars.
