YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Friends hugged and consoled each other Thursday morning outside St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where they would say their final farewell to a beloved classmate and friend.
Friends said goodbye to Michael Mullamphy, a 17-year-old from Garrison, who would have entered his senior year at Walter Panas High School this fall.
Matt Czuy, who has known Mullamphy since they were in sixth grade, hugged a group of friends outside the church. He didnt have a care in the world, Czuy said. He loved his carthat was his pride and joy, he just loved his car.
Czuy said a favorite memory he had of his friend was recent, and revolved around their similar interests.
We drove up to Poughkeepsie in our cars, and we went to this car wash and then to taco bell, and on the way home we drove each others cars, Czuy said. I dont know why, but Ill remember it. It was a day just like todayreally nice out.
Other friends said his carefree and funny nature are things they would never forget.
We camped out in his backyard about two years ago, it was just a lot of funbut he was the funniest person I know, said Alanna Scicolone, who met Mullamphy through mutual friends. He had these snakes and a tarantula too, I thinkbut he was always so funny and crazy, he would chase me around his house with this huge yellow snake.
He was very unique, added in friend Nicole Zimbaldi. He was such a funny personhe was always doing something to be funny or crazy when we were with him.
Mullamphy passed away Saturday night in a fatal one-car accident on Sprout Brook Road.
