Frank G. Lindsey Elementary Students Move Up

CORTLANDT, N.Y.-- The moving up ceremony of Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School students was not deterred by today’s overcast and sprinkling skies. The class of 61 students celebrated their entry into middle school with barbecue, swimming and games at the Kolping Society in Cortlandt.

The money for the party was raised by fundraisers like selling cookie dough during the holiday season. The kids enjoy a barbecue, free shirts printed especially for the occasion, a DJ and a blow up slide all with money raised. “Almost all the parents wanted to help,” said Cathy Degarmo, the parents “had to do a lottery,” to decide who would be the main volunteers.

Degarmo, who is also serves lunch to over 200 students a day at Furnace Woods Elementary, and Cathy Reilly, along with many other parents, helped to organize the event. About the “moving up” ceremony, Lesa Dalton said “it was a lovely ceremony.”
