Dispute Over Xbox Controller Leads to Stabbing

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- State Police in Cortlandt arrested and charged an 18-year-old man with assault Tuesday after an argument over an Xbox controller led to a stabbing.

Albert Tapia, of 2054 East Main St. in Cortlandt, was charged with two counts of felony assault in the second-degree. Police said an altercation started after Tapia accused two friends, who were brothers, at his residence of previously stealing a controller.

During the spat, Tapia allegedly pulled out a folding knife and either stabbed or slashed both victims causing serious lacerations to their chest and arm areas. The injuries were not considered life threatening, police said. The victims were treated at Hudson Valley Hospital Center, while one was transported to Westchester Medical Center for surgery on his left arm, police said.

Tapia was arraigned in Croton Justice Court and was remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Cortlandt Town Court Friday at 10 a.m.
