Details Unclear About Woman Shot in Buchanan

BUCHANAN, N.Y. – The Buchanan Police Department said the details surrounding a woman's self-inflicted shooting remain unclear, and are unwilling to release many details because of an ongoing investigation.

Mary Anne Nohai, 66, long time Tate Avenue resident in Buchanan, shot herself before 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Her husband made the 911 call and was subsequently rushed to Westchester Medical Center. Police believe she was alone in the house when the shooting took place.

Police are still investigating whether the shooting could have been an accident, and have sent the hand gun to the Westchester County police lab for ballistics testing. Although Nohai is in stable condition, “She’s out of the woods,” said Sargeant Michael Guida of Buchanan Police, officials say they still have not been able to interview her.

Buchanan Police would only say that it was a “body wound,” and would not say exactly where she sustained the gunshot injury. Police are uncertain of when the accident or intentional determination will come.
