Croton's Silver Lake Park opened on Memorial Day weekend, according to tradition, despite concerns from some at the Village Recreation Department that the high water level and swift currents would impede the opening.
Just one week ago Silver Lake Park was littered with sticks and branches, while large sand piles of sat ton the park's edge, waiting to be placed on the water's edge. Park patrons enjoyed the park on Memorial Day, unaware of the hasty work that was just completed.
"It wasn't that busy," said lifeguard Tim Kelly, "last year was definitely busier." Kelly, 20, is a student at Boston College and a Croton resident. He also noted that on Memorial Day people tend to come later in the day.
The ?? ???warm and sunny weather brought Cassandra Hooper and her daughter out to spend some time at the park. "I don't like to go to the pool," said Ella Mills, 7 (and a half), "because it's inside."
Silver Lake Park is currently open on weekends until June 24, the official open date for the summer. Silver Lake will then remain open seven days a week. Hours are from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m/ For more information about park passes and Silver Lake, see our almanac entry below, or visit Croton-on-Hudson's Recreation and Parks Department website. The Croton-on-Hudson Recreation Department
