Croton Village Govt. Could Begin Accepting Cards

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Village of Croton could soon begin accepting credit card payments for property taxes and water bills, via their website. The contract for services with UniBank could be up and running as soon as December.

“It’s a convenience for some people,” said Village Manager, Abraham Zambrano. The electronic debit or credit card function would allow people to pay their taxes or water bills the day payments are due, allowing last minute residents to keep from incurring late penalties.

The service will charge users a 2.5 percent fee, which rounds out to about $2.50 for fees between $1 and $99.99, and up to $1,000 for a fees between $35,000 and $39,999.

“We will need to get the tools for people to pay building department fees, and recreation fees, because that’s a little more complicated, believe it or not,” said Zambrano. The manager added that creating the infrastructure to accept credit card payments could be a “good project for the winter.”
