Croton Man Arrested After Year-Long Investigation

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – An investigation which lasted over one year finally closed on Wednesday afternoon, when Croton police arrested Michael Schmidt, 23, a Half Moon Bay resident, on 3rd Degree Burglary charges, a “class e” felony. Schmidt is accused of breaking into a boat in the Croton Yacht Club.

Although the Assistant District Attorney recommended bail be set at $25,000, Judge Watkins set bail at $10,000 and Schmidt was transported to county jail. The arrest was made based on evidence recovered from the boat Schmidt allegedly broke into and burglarized.

In other police news:

-On Thursday evening, October 6, a woman parked her 2007 Audi in Harmon, just outside of the Dairy Mart, while she patronized a business there. She later found her front license plate missing. She reported that the male, a European cashier at Dairy Mart, had removed her front license plate because he suspected the car was stolen. The cashier replaced the license plate, and patrols advised the cashier not to continue this practice.

-On Friday, October 7, just after 3 a.m., patrols checking Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School witnessed two males run into the woods. When patrols checked back in the morning, they found they gate unlocked, but were unable to identify the parties.

-On Sunday, October 9, patrols responded to a two-vehicle accident near Croton-Harmon High School, in which a red convertible or Honda Civic hit another car, pushing it into a pole, and left the scene of the accident. Patrols follows a fluid trail to Alexander Lane, where the damaged vehicle was also found. James Anfiteatro, 53, was given a summonses for leaving the scene of an accident.

-A Zeytinia employee, Francis Emeidi, 42, was arrested for a warrant issued for criminal contempt in the second degree. Emeidi was booked and processed in Croton on Wednesday, October 12, and surrendered to Dutchess County sheriffs. Emeidi reports that he lives on Harrison Street in Croton.
