CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The varsity baseball playoffs are about to begin and Croton-On-Hudson and Briarcliff Manor are all abuzz about their prospects.

The two high schools faced off in a scrimmage at Croton High School on Saturday as their first-round games were postponed due to inclement weather. The delayed start to the playoffs has not dampened enthusiasm of parents who are cheering their kids on.

"I am very happy and very proud," Lisa Matalavage, whose son plays for Croton, said. "This team is great and represents Croton well. They are great kids."

Matalavage said she is hoping the team simply does their best.

Theresa Rossini was excited for Croton to be hosting its first home playoff game since 2005.

"They play well and are coached well," Rossini said. "They deserve their success."

Rossini said the team has chemistry and enjoy playing with each other.

"There are no i's on this team," Rossini said.

Jim Steinberg was rooting on his son, who had just been called up from the junior varsity team on Croton. Having coached a lot of the kids in Little League, he was excited at how far the kids have come.

"It's cool to see," Steinberg said. "They worked very hard."

Ken and Susan Spielfogel were rooting on their son, William, a left fielder for Briarcliff High School.

"These guys have been playing great," Susan Spielfogel said. "We are really proud. They are a great group of boys. It's a real team."

Spielfogel said she will be on the edge of her seat for every pitch.

"I want this team to do very well," Spielfogel said.
