The free event, which is part of National Memory Screening Day, is set for 11 a.m. at the Seabury at Fieldhome, according to a press release. National Memory Screening Day is an "annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America," according to the release. The memory screenings are confidential.

“If you think you may have either hereditary memory loss issues or other questions about yourself that can be evaluated by professionals in the field, or even just to get a baseline, The Seabury at Fieldhome is offering this wonderful opportunity in my district to get a free, confidential screening," said Assemblywoman Sandy Galef in the release. "I encourage anyone 65 and above to consider taking advantage of this proactive program because some memory loss problems can now be treated or delayed."

Representatives said "qualified healthcare professionals will administer the memory screenings and provide educational materials about memory concerns, brain health and caregiving," according to the release.  "AFA suggests memory screenings for anyone concerned about memory loss or experiencing warning signs of dementia; whose family and friends have noticed changes in them; who believe they are at risk due to a family history of dementia; or who want to see how their memory is now and for future comparisons," representatives said in the release. "Screeners emphasize that results are not a diagnosis, and encourage individuals who score poorly as well as those who still have concerns to pursue a full medical examination.  Some memory problems, like those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid issues, are readily treatable and even curable. Others might be due to Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.  Warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease include forgetting people’s names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills, confusion and personality changes."

To schedule a memory screening or for more information, residents are asked to contact Patti Horvath at 914-737-2255 or at phorvath@fieldhome.com.

Fieldhome is located at 2276 Catherine St. in Cortlandt Manor.
