Residents told us of significant potholes at the intersection of Red Mill and Foothill Road, on Lexington Avenue, on Route 202 in front of Hudson Valley Hospital Center, on Watch Hill Road and especially along Locust Avenue.

“I called two days ago about the Locust one and they filled it, but it comes out in a couple of days,“ said reader Michele Copperpot.“You need to call the highway department of the town and keep calling. Last year I blew my tire out on that pothole.”

Several Cortlandt readers complained about the area around the Crugers train station.

“The entire combination of Crugers Station Road, Crugers Avenue, Cortlandt Street and Furnace Dock Road [are in] very bad shape,” said Laura Giarratano Marques.

Several readers also complained about the state’s maintenance of Route 9.

“I know it’s a state highway, but Route 9 between Welcher Avenue and Croton Point is like a war-torn country,” said reader Brian Seger

Cortlandt Director of Environmental Services Jeff Coleman said his highway department crews are out filling potholes every day but won’t start putting down hot asphalt until next month.

“Unfortunately, the asphalt plants tend to not open until April, so until that time we use cold mix asphalt, which generally provides a semi-permanent type of patch,” Coleman said.

Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan roads are handled by the village highway departments, he said.

Cortlandt’s highway division can be reached at 914-737-0047. The Croton-on-Hudson Department of Public Works can be reached at 914-271-3775. Buchanan’s highway department can be reached at 914-737-6858.
